Bonnie,

I have sold Nurture III for years, and I have sometimes seen this also. I am
one of the few who do pump trials (have the luxury of time), and this is one
of the reasons that I do them: to make sure that mom and pump are
compatible. Some mothers will turn purple no matter what the pump; some do
it only with one type. Has mom experimented with lower suction/less frequent
cycling, higher suction/ more frequent cycling, and/or different flange
(nipple reducer insert, flexi-flange)? Have you been able to double check
that she is using the appropriate setting? If all of these things have been
covered, then this is not the pump for her. I would be interested to see if
she can pump with the Ameda one-hand in the same day and not turn
purple.......

I have moms come through my practice who will turn red or purple and maybe
even swell no matter what pump, suction, speed or flange we try. I am
looking forward to the one or more new pumps coming on the market that rely
on less suction and more compression or whatever; might be ideal for moms
such as these.
