Hi, everyone. Well, our meeting was yesterday. The scoop is that the
Director of Radiology/Women's Services needed unexpected space. She had ordered
equipment that wouldn't fit into a room. Our hospital is having large space
issues. Our location in the community is in an area we just can't keep up with.
(We do nearly 500 births per month, our Women's services is WAY behind in
getting women in for biopsies etc....THAT is a SERIOUS issues). She had to make a
split decision. Our Lactation Room was the ONLY room the equipment would fit
into. There was a probable 12 month plan to slowly move Lactation out of
there anyway. She did not intend for it to happen like this. MY bosses knew
NOTHING of this quick decision last week. So what we will be doing is still
doing consultations (Yea!) up in the Family Birthplace. The pump rentals will
continue, for now. Our Secretary will order the kits, nipple shields, and SNSs.
They will look into our hospital gift shop maybe selling some products if
they have the space. Eventually she does not want to do the pump rentals but we
were told that is later down the road and they will let the medical building
pharmacy know so they can increase their supply and our sister hospital across
town, etc. My main concern was still being able to help outpatients and that
will continue. So things are workable. Bottom line is space is limited and
with health care reimbursement getting worse and worse hospitals do need to
make choices they sometimes wish they didn't have to make.
