Hi Micky
I am sure you will reassure this mother that it is normal for exclusively
breastfed babies' poo to be liquid and that this is not diarrhoea.
(Diarrhoea smells horrible - much like it does when an adult has it.) When
mums are taking abx, it is common for them to report that baby's poo smells
different from usual but it is not usually the truly foul smell associated
with gastro-intestinal infection. It usually takes two or three weeks
following cessation of treatment for the nappies' smell to return to the
inoffensive 'new mown hay' smell with which we are all so familiar.
As for the yeast and associated auto-immune response, I would be seek a
naturopath who works closely with a sympathetic GP (family physician). Here
in Australia, we have a number of registered GPs who are have qualifications
in nutritional medicine (naturopathy) and I have found that they are more
equipped to deal with yeast and with auto immune disease than the average
GP.
