Hi Lactnetters,

I have mom's permission to post this question. I am working with a mother who is taking 1 tablespoon of lecithin granules daily for recurrent plugged ducts. She started a few weeks ago. (She estimates 2 weeks ago, but isn't positive.)

Without getting into too much detail, the question came up about possibly needing to thicken feeds. Mom asked me if the lecithin could potentially cause her breast milk to be thinner.

My understanding is that lecithin emulsifies, thereby keeping fats in solution, but that it doesn't actually change the viscosity of the milk.

Can anyone weigh in on this? I am pretty much clueless...

Thanks!
Barb
