The WHO maintains an excellent web site www.who.org that has wonderful
papers about every issue related to lactation. There one can access
citations of articles with regard to extended lactation. There was an
article some years back by Prentice that was an epidemiologic examination of
the question: Does extended bfg do harm. The answer was no, and that it
did, in fact, positively impact toddler health. There are other articles
out there.

It remains my experience that direct confrontations are non-productive.
I've had better success arguing with evidence in hand from other peers.
Perhaps a salient article or two with a note saying: "Mrs. Smith told me
about your comments on extended bfeeding. I know you to be an open-minded
person who is concerned about practicing evidence based medicine. A common
belief may be that there are no benefits to extended nursing, but I'm
attaching a couple of articles to let you know what the research documents."
