I wanted to share an interesting case study. The subject is myself.
I have never heard of this particular presentation of vasospasm
before so I thought it might be of interest to all.

I am nursing a 6 month old baby, my third. We have had a smooth
course with no difficulties. I did experience vasospasm for awhile
with my first baby, 7 years ago, that I later realized was secondary
to poor latch. I had not experienced it since then. My family
recently had the flu -- fever, chills, aches & pains, lethargy, etc,
the whole deal. During height of the fever and chills portion of the
illness, I experienced pronounced vasospasm of the nipples. There
was very distinct, visible blanching and it was quite painful. It
seemed to be worst when I was in a "chill" phase.

The vasospasm ended when my fever finally broke for good. My baby
nursed normally throughout the illness. I don't know why or how the
flu might trigger vasospasm, but it seems clear to me that that is
what happened. As it was short-lived, I used no treatment other than
trying to keep my breasts warm.

I hope this is useful information for someone!
