Hi all,

Page 86 of this brochure states "Johnson & Johnson have discontinued their own line of feeding bottles"; I was informed that they'd sold their Mam company about 4 years ago.

Yes, their website www.johnsonsbaby.com links to www.babycenter.com, but they are two different companies. J&J actually does not profit off of promoting bottles/teats as much as the pump companies do! Why aren't we coming down as hard on them?

I agree we must be constantly vigilant for infractions/subterfuge by big business (in fact, I'm going to the training to be a Code watcher this summer), but we must also be careful to acknowledge the GOOD things companies do as well....we're not going to make them go away, but if we can encourage them to be more bf friendly, isn't that going to have a greater impact in the long run than being quick to condemn based on suspicions and events from the past?

In our positive parenting classes, we teach that it's much more impactful to catch our kids doing something RIGHT, than it is to only pay attention when they do something WRONG. Perhaps it would be in everyone's best interest if we practiced this strategy with businesses as well.

In the spirit of disclosure, I must state that I am on J&J's Pediatric Advisory Board, & while I was not consulted on the book in question, they have asked for my input on their Bonding & Beyond tear-off sheets, and the Infant Care booklet in their hospital sample packs (which, btw, do NOT include any samples or info related to bottle-feeding, except to say that NOT bf is an important decision that should not be made without consulting a health care provider!)

Now, back to lurking, & putting on my flame-retardent suit...... ;-)

Smiles,

Carol

Hello,
Johnson&Johnson is not just a baby products company. It is the manufacturer
of bottles and teats under de brand MAM.

This company is in violation of the Code with its marketing strategies. It
is hard to believe that their breastfeeding guide could be unbiased. You
can find information on J&J's Code violations in the summary of the Code
watch report
