Hello!

I’m hoping those of you that provide banked donor milk in your hospitals might
share how the purchase and charging for the milk is handled. In our NICU we
are going to begin having donor milk on hand from the milk bank. We are
planning to purchase the milk with a purchase order, but the question that has
been raised is whether to charge the individual patient for the milk by a line
item charge or to include it in the overall room fee in which every patient then
shares in the cost as other food and nutrition is charged. Please let me know
what your hospitals do. Our finance dept. is looking at going toward the room
fee route.

Tammi Martin RN, IBCLC
