JON,

I have had many moms who have given their babies up for adoption and have
decided to breastfeed them while in the hospital. I have, also, had many
adoptive moms who have opted to use SNS and breastfeed the new little one in
the hospital.

I have not seen, yet, a birth mother who breastfed and an adoptive mom who
wanted to bottle feed at the same time in the hospital although I see no harm
in breastfeeding and, then, following with a bottle feeding if this is what
*they* want to do.

You have given the birth mother information that she can share with the
adoptive mom. The finaly decision is theirs as to what they both want to do
with the birth mother's choice having the most weight to the decision. I
know that you know all of this.

In evaluating the psychological advantages and disadvantages, I have found
that the hospital staff has a bigger problem with a baby for adoption being
breastfed in the hospital than anyone else involved.

I have not noted that it is any easier for the birth mother to let go nor
have I noted that it is any harder. I suspect that it is a little easier in
the she knows that she gave her baby the best start possible in life.

To my knowledge no one has published any articles on this topic.
I don't know if this helps you and your client . It would be a good research
project for someone.
