Sigh. I ran into the dad of the baby in my original post tonight while
doing some last minute Valentine shopping. Mom has *not* picked up a decent
pump yet. She is using an Evenflo pump (single, battery operated)
occasionally after nursing. She is still supplementing (I didn't get how
much in our short conversation in the check out line). Dad was pleased
though, that baby is sleeping more, and mom is feeling stronger. I have a
feeling that the next time I see this couple the story will be that baby
somehow seemed to prefer the bottle, and mom wasn't making much milk anyway
you know, so now we're just bottle feeding. But we'll see. Somehow, the
cost of a rental pump seems too much to many moms, but a cart full of AIM
which costs more doesn't seem too much.
Just for the record, mom did have a lot of edema, but had it prior to labor.
If anything, it looked better after delivery, and on day 6 was nearly
resolved. This delivery was VBAC, although a rather traumatic delivery
anyway, with vacuum assistance. She was also significantly anemic prior to
delivery, and lower after, but did not have a significant postpartum
hemorrhage. Dad did look for fenugreek, but couldn't find it in any stores
here. I gave mom a script for Reglan (there is no compounding pharmacy near
here and I wanted her to have something sooner rather than later.) Not sure
if she picked it up yet, though.
