Kathy,
I almost responded to your question privately, then thought others
might be interested in this information as well.

You can see a copy of the WIC policy related to breastfeeding at:
http://www.tdh.state.tx.us/wichd/pol_bf01_0.htm

Roman numerals V, VI, VII, and IX are related to formula company
incentives.

The policy states that this is a federal regulation, which means all
states should be compliant with this policy. If you know of a
situation in which the WIC staff are receiving formula company
incentives, the WIC director of that state should be made aware.

Incidentally, the policy was implemented in 1993. Since that time, I
have not seen formula company posters or calendars in WIC clinics in
Texas, the WIC staff do not wear badge holders that say "Babies Love
Similac", you won't see a 4-foot Peter Rabbit in the waiting room,
and staff do not carry their lunches in formula marketing packs. I
have not seen WIC staff with long distance phone cards and they
do not get free lunches or inservices provided by marketing reps.

Any ideas out there for implementing changes in hospital attitudes?
