Mother of two week old baby was started on nipple shield in hospital.
Shield is like a bottle nipple, firm and long.  Baby refuses to go to breast
without shield.  Mom reports nipples protrude well, supply good and baby
thriving.  She will wean to bottle if she must continue BF with a shield.  She
has tried trimming the shield, but took off too much and baby would not latch.
She tries nursing without the shield at each feeding......before, during or
after the feed.  Doesn't matter if baby is sleepy or wide awake.  He refuses
to nurse without the shield.
Any suggestions?
