This is a great question that many of us have been trained to ask. However,
one of the major points in the curriculum is the idea that there are two ways
to respond to a baby: 1) emotionally, from your gut, and 2) rationally.  The
overall philosphy of the Ezzo's method is that it is responding from the gut
that "spoils" the baby, so they emphasize analyzing the situation
intellectually (is there a discernible reason for this crying or is baby just
being manipulative?) and de-emphasize feelings.  In fact, they totally
discount the maternal instinct as being below human dignity.

For this reason, I would counsel LCs to be careful, since while asking such a
question may help some mothers to analyze the situation, it may also convince
other mothers that you are a product of that humanistic sect that parents
only from emotions, and thus you may discredit yourself completely.
