Lactnetters, HELP!!

Mom has been working for 48 hours to get this baby to latch, finally succeeded, and finds she can't bear the pressure on her nipples. As long as the baby was incorrectly latched and sucking against the hipple tip, mom didn't have any discomofort -- once baby properly latched, she was screaming. We have tried several times, to assure good position, etc., mom just cant take it. She can bear the pressure from the old A-E pump, on minimum. She states that when she and hubby are intimate, he does play with and orally stimulate her nipples, without undue sensitivity for mom -- but he doesn't suckle.

We have tried icing her nipples to numb them prior to baby latching -- breasts too sensitive to either straight ice or ice pack.

What do you suggest? I have worked with her from 9 a.m. to 9p.m. and am going back for more in the a.m. -- what suggesstions do you have for decreasing sensitivity?

In the meantime mom is pumping and giving the baby her colostrum via alternative feeding methods.

TIA, Chanita, San Francisco
