<This month's issue of AJN (Vol 105, No 1, Jan 05, pg 40 - 51) has a
fabulous CE article on Breastfeeding in Nonmaternity Settings by
Jeannette Crenshaw, Dallas TX.
It needs to be required reading for EVERY nurse in EVERY hospital :-) It
focuses on preserving breastfeeding where ever a nursing mother
intersects with the health system. Also focuses on the benefits of BF to
children, mothers and society!
I know a lot of doctors who also need to read it :-) >
I second that! AJN is the official journal of the American Nurses
Association, the national professional organization for the largest group
of health care providers in the nation. If you work in a hospital, make
sure it gets exposure on each OB departmental bulletin board, especially
NICU, (or hanging inside the bathroom door nearest the nurses' station!)
I encourage everyone to bring it to the attention of all the nurses they
know who work in any area of a hospital, or public health, or doctor's
offices, or as school nurses, (maybe even a nursing home, just for a good
general refresher from a public health standpoint, or for the sake of
improving their support for any young mothers they know!) It's a very
positive, thorough, evidence-based, well-referenced and comprehensive
article! Not only does the author have excellent credentials but she had
it critically reviewed by some of the best minds in our business.
On top of being a good article, be sure to emphasize to all your nurse
friends and colleagues that it's worth 2 nursing CE credits if they send
in the post-test!
