Dear Lactnet Friends:

A friend, who is a doula and mother to 14 children (hers, his, and a host of
fostered and adopted children) has just been blessed by attending her
natural born daughter's second delivery. Delivery was spontaneous and
unmedicated.

Once the baby's head was out, the midwife encouraged the mother to deliver
her baby. The mother did just that, bending over and lifting her baby out
and up onto her chest, where baby rested a bit, then bobbed over to a breast
and attached. The dyad stayed s2s for the next 72 hours.

I met them last night; baby is now a whole 4 days old. Hasn't cried. Is
totally soft, rosy, full-bodied, and glowing. Alert and responsive while
awake. Nursing beautifully whenever she wants, as much as she wants. Spends
most of her time on mamma's chest. Mamma is staying with her own mother for
2 weeks, and being waited on. 5-year old big brother is close by, holding
baby when mamma takes a shower, and being tended to by a loving grandmother.
Loving daddy is there too. The atmosphere around them is holy.

Oh what a joy to see the loving ease of what is in my mind, a completely
natural (and totally rare) welcome to this world.

It is possible!!! My prayer is that every mother and baby would know this.

warmly,
