Hi,

I have a question for the brains that be on this list.
 ;-)

I was wondering if there was any study ever done about
oversupply syndrome and pregnancy (colostrum coming
in). I am particularily curious as to whether people
who suffer from oversupply syndrome keep their milk
longer than generally is the case, and have fewer kids
weaning because of this. Or whether the contrary is
true (and if one of the 2 is true, rather than it
being totally independant, is there any known REASON
for it, i.e. a biochemical pathway or something)?

At the same time, is oversupply syndrome VERY common
in nursing moms? I am only wondering because what
with all the moms who assume that the fact that their
baby cries means that they don't have enough milk,
could all be (or mostly be) OSS sufferers, if for
instance, these moms are not taking into account other
factors (for instance, when does baby cry? during
letdown???). If such is the case, is it possible that
rather than seeing the huge number of "failed"
lactations we see sometimes (i.e. about 50% or more of
women I hear talking seem to quit because of "not
enough milk", which I gather is quite rare outside of
breast reductions or other surgery?), we should be
seeing many more cases of OSS???

Lastly, is there anywhere (either a good book, or over
the net, or both) where one can find lots of studies
about breastfeeding in general? You know, all those
ones that talk about lower IQ's in formula fed
children, or higher amounts of allergies/illness in
formula fed kids, etc. Is there somewhere that would
have a lot of those studies (including where they were
done, on what number of people, over what length of
time, etc.)?

Thank you very much!

Myra.
