I too have heard that hands to chest and hands to face will help a baby
center and calm. I have seen it time and time again. Even with my own
children, once I heard that, I would swaddle their arms lightly across their
chest for diapering, and they would lay still and no fussing at all. When a
baby is fussy before going to breast, I bring their arms across their chest
and let their hands touch and they settle easier. The other s's are common
second nature to many moms. . .ever seen a mom swaying in the checkout line,
even without her baby? Just the swaddling I question and only as it relates
to arm placement.
