When we went to the museum last week, we saw a pewter nipple shield! It was
completely made from pewter, base and teat, and there were lots of hole all
over the base, plus on the end of the teat. I'm not sure what the holes on
the base were for, I can't visualize the suction to the breast. It was the
size of our average nipple shield today. I didn't even notice it until
Heidi was asking what was in that pile of rattles. I was very excited and
also horrified to see it. We couldn't imagine how the baby got anything
out!
