Kathy,
I share your frustration with the new cooler bags Ross has available for
mothers. Our hospital has the BFHI certificate of intent too, and our
nursing staff think the new bags are great. They see nothing wrong in
providing them for our mothers. The fact that the company product name is
all over the bag in not impressive to them. Our policy states that such
items are only to be given if the mother requests. Many must be requesting
as many seem to have them.

There is a great deal of resistence in my hospital to not using free bfing
items provided by formula industry. And we are considered one of the more
baby friendly places around. I was approached within the last 2 weeks
regarding the video provided by Mead Johnson. The maternity center
supervisor wanted to give them out. I have requested the lactation staff
review the video. I will explain the inappropriateness of the video using
the reviews. This approach will probably work. I have no workable plan idea
for the bags-----have thought of taking them to the ILCA conference in HOT AZ
and sharing with conference attendees so each could have a cooler bag for
pool snacks! If you get good ideas on addressing this, please share with us
in NC. Thanx.
