I did a search of the archives to support the advice a co-worker and I gave
to a new mother on our unit.
This woman had a breast biopsy a few days ago. She ended up subsequently in
Preterm labor and hada preterm deilvery at 28 wks gestation (twins).
Is now pumping . Her OB is worried about proper healing in the affected
breast, but is receptive and did seek our advice. We supported pumping for
these preterm babies while acknowleging that there is a possibility of milk
fistula formation or some leakage from the surgical site. She had a
conventional biopsy incision, not involving the nipple . Has anyone had first
hand experience with a similar situation?
I am concerned about primary engorgement and her surgical site and
complications with healing.
