Lisa Sandora IBCLC and C-SLP (Speech and Language Therapist) recommends
taking a baby who starts sucking before they latch on away from mom's
breast for a few minutes, and then let him try again. Taking him away
from the stimulus of the breast usually stops the sucking response, and
lets him "reset".
Mom should express colostrum into a teaspoon or small cup every hour or
two, and give it to the baby to keep her milk production stimulated and
his energy up while he learns to do things in the right order!

Catherine Watson Genna, IBCLC NYC (writing from the ILCA Conference)
