I had not thought of the aspect of being unethical to donate
unsolicited formula to a food pantry. It was actually my son-in-law's
idea, I thought better than giving it to his baby. Personally, I like the
idea of dumping it in the toilet. Years ago, LLL told us mothers to use it
in pancake mix, but I could never bring myself to do it. I ended up
throwing it out actually. I think the obstetrical offices are putting
mother's on formula lists, so I intend to start complaining there, too.
Any other ideas on how mothers get put on lists.
My new grandbaby has such a nice smell from her mom's milk. I got to
spend a few hours with her today and still am so impressed by my
daughter's maternal instincts. She nurses and mothers her baby so easily,
and the baby is looking bigger already.
I am sad for another mother I am working with, born the day before my
granddaughter whose mother really wants to nurse and can't get him
latched. She is pumping her milk however. I wish I could have been with
her from the start too.
Warm regards in snowy upstate NY,
                     Ellen Mahony, IBCLC
