Our moms fall into one of two catagories ( we have 4 pods with 8 babies per pod/room)
1. They live close and go home and come in days for feeding
2. They stay in the Guest House (moms are from other states) - there is kitchen to cook own food and there are snacks in the common area
When they are in the Guest House the hospital provides one meal a day - they call from the NICU to "room service" and order whatever the mom wants - one meal a day but they order extra food at that time.
We tried allowing the mothers that are out of town the ability to order food on request - just like the moms on our Peds unit do - three meals - after 30 day trial we found that they were only ordering food once - at lunch and there was 1-2 mothers that order dinner - none of them were here for breaskfast
