Any suggestions for a 3 week old who has been in hospital for last 48 hours
(waiting for results of spinal tap for suspected menengitis) and has been
given mega doses of several different antibiotics IV? Baby had a temp of 99
rectally, so I really balked at how this family was treated in ER... both
brothers had had colds and this baby tested positive for RSV from nasal
secretion, though she was full term, healthy and is completely breastfed.
Nevertheless, they insisted on the spinal tap and keeping the mom and baby
for 48 hours. Would there be any benefit in starting BabyDophilus on mom's
nipple for baby to lick off and/or Acidophilus for mom NOW before we see the
nasty yeasties appear?? Thanks, Ann IBCLC in Raleigh, NC
