Someone needs to be aware of, and in charge of the "big picture". I would hope that is the patient herself - but that happens rarely. I would doubt that every patient tells her lactation consultant every detail about her medical history or medications, nor does every lactation consultant ask for a complete medical history. I am not trying to medicalize breastfeeding. All is not normal and physiologic if the woman needs to see an LC!
