Our standard is three phone calls without getting a return call.

On the first two, we will leave a general message. It is usually:

"Hello, Mrs. Smith. This is Lucy Lactation consultant from BESTFed. I am
calling to touch base and see how you and Miss Amanda are doing with your
breastfeeding. We would love to get an update from you as soon as you get a
chance. I am sure you have our number but, in case it is not handy, it is
999-555-4567. If it is more convenient, you are welcome to leave a message
on the voice mail after hours."

On the last third try the message changes to:

"Hello, Mrs. Smith. This is Lucy Lactation consultant from BESTFed. I am
calling to touch base and see how you and Miss Amanda are doing with your
breastfeeding. We would love to get an update from you as soon as you get a
chance. I see we have now left three messages for you and will assume that
since we have not heard from you that all is well. Just in case you still
have questions I will hold your case open for one more week, until Friday,
the 12th of never and, if we have not heard from you by then will close the
case. I am sure you have our number but, in case it is not handy, it is
999-555-4567. If it is more convenient, you are welcome to leave a message
on the voice mail after hours. Enjoy your baby!"

Hope this helps.

What do you do when you (the LC) calls the mom and you leave a message on
her machine but she doesn't call you back?

Do you try again? And how many times do you keep calling back if she doesn't
return your call?
