The Haberman nipple was developed by an OT and mom who had a baby with a
cleft palate. It was originally used for cleft babies. It's uses are
expanding, however, and it has been purchased and marketed by Medela.

The beauty of the system is that it is absolutely dripless and the flow can
be controlled to three different settings...depending on strength of suck.
It is shaped much like a standard but long nipple but has a broad base
around which you can teach a baby to flange it's lips.

Contact Medela for a list of it's uses. We are using it with babies who
will need longer term supplementation and suck training because they are
here in the nursesry and mom is gone home and cannot breastfeed every feed.

There is a mini-Haberman for very small babies but I never use it...too
short IMO.
