Marianne asks: "how would you reckon can an individual lc comply with her
Code of Ethics, if the organisation applies rules more loose...?"  My take
is this:  an IBCLC has an individual duty to conduct her self,
professionally, within the parameters described by the mandatory IBLCE Code
of Ethics and IBLCE Scope of Practice for IBCLCs, and ought to abide by the
voluntary ILCA Standards of Practice. Take care of your own responsibility
first, then (if need be) turn your education and advocacy efforts to effect
change in the organizations or employers with whom you are connected.

Jan asks about ILCA affiliates' duties vis-a-vis ILCA, specifically one in
New Zealand.  ILCA affiliates are expected to abide by the fundamental
principles and statement of purpose of ILCA.  After all -- they are, um,
affiliates.  All for one and one for all, right?  Early 2010 is the
timetable for the launch of LCANZ, the Lactation Consultants of Australia
and New Zealand, the newest ILCA multi-national affiliate.  There were
nearly two dozen smaller lactation advocacy organizations within the two
countries; some of those elected to join LCANZ; some elected to disband;
some will continue as-is.  LCANZ is required to abide by the fundamental
principles and statement of purpose of the umbrella organization, ILCA.
