In our area we tend to use 100mg tablets of diflucan 200mg on day one and
100mg per day for the next 13 days. this is reserved for what we call
"resistant" yeast mom and or baby having symptoms over 30 days especially
if they have tried nystatin (for both) and it has not stayed cleared up.

yes you need to treat the baby also. nystatin solution swabing the entire
mouth after each feeding up to 8 times (1ml each time) per day works much
better than 1cc/ml in each cheek 4 times per day. mom may need a antifungal
cream for her nipple area also. a tiny (baby pea) sized amount rubbed in well
after every feed seems to work best.

if mom's symptoms have not started to improve by the 3rd to 5th day of
treatment you may have a combination of other things going on from dermititis
to a 2ndary bacterial infection as well.

The cases that seem to stay away the best are the ones that are treated for a
full 7 to 10 days past symptoms. which may mean extending the diflucan for
another week or so for mom.
