Nikki's post about the Belgian waffles reminds me of the days when my BF
support group would stand in the main shopping street with a waffle iron and
a long extension cord, to raise money. We were always getting asked 'Are
these made with breastmilk??' to which we would reply 'If they were, do you
think we'd be selling them this cheaply?'

Waffles are the quintessential fund-raising food here, as well as the food
for striking employees of whatever field. Every self-respecting labor
conflict has a waffle committee, every school band and sports team has its
own waffle recipe which all members must use when making batches of batter
for a joint effort. They are far too ordinary to use as a perk for
anything.

Drug reps here provide fresh fruit platters, which is elegant and pricey in
this sub-arctic climate. We don't have formula reps that visit in-patient
maternity care institutions, but I have found, and confiscated, a few
Nutramigen ball point pens at well child centers - grrr.
