Hi All,

Coach Smith here again, having been following Lactnet sporadically lately on
the topic of "delivery self-attachment" ...

Whether the mother gets the labor pain relieving medication by IM, IV, or
injection into the epidural space, she STILL GETS IT. And the drug still
gets to the baby. And the effect is dose-related: the more pain relief
medication mom gets, the more the baby gets.

Please repeat after me: "All labor drugs get to the baby." Period. End of
sentence. Emphasis on the word ALL. The only labor drug that cannot affect
the baby is the one the mother does NOT take. Repeat early and often to
prenatal classes - this is called "informed consent." Then teach them
non-pharmaceutical pain relief techniques and a thorough explanation of the
birth process.

THIS IS NOT NEW INFORMATION, folks. I first learned this thirty years ago.
Newer research has verified, corroborated, and fine-tuned these facts.
