With all due respect, and I won't say another word about this as it relates
to any particular religion, but is not the fundamental Golden Rule at the
heart of Christian practice "Do unto others as you would have others do unto
you"? How would these folks feel if they were completely at the mercy of
others for all of their "feeding" and they were only allowed food or drink
every 4 hours?

Isn't that a technique used in brainwashing - witholding food/drink & giving
it only at the trainer's whim?
