I couldn't of said it better myself. Just the other day I was talking to
an unsupportive ped, he was telling me that he *does* support bf and
thinks its healthiest, but some women are to stressed to do it. He
proceded to tell me about a 38yo primip that delivered at another hosp
than the one I work at , that was to stressed to nurse because of her age!
so he told he to stop bf and to bottle feed !!! Arughhhhhhh. I told him
that a lot of women really really want to bf but its not always easy and
with some support and counseling (from me) they can continue and not
switch to formula feeding in which one day they usually regret. I told him
I am a mom, I have bf two children, and I had problems, and I
*****really***** wanted to bf so I sought help and was able to continue {I
think that's what spurred me to be an IBCLC but that's another story :) }
I told him that I can relate to the moms on a level that he cant. I also
told him that I respected his med judgement and that he should respect
mine in regards to lactation. He said he will start sending me some
consults........ Ill hold my breath and wait !
