I just listened to it, and thought it was nicely done. Marsha Walker
was interviewed and made some good points. Several working mothers
were also interviewed, including a paramedic who pumped between
calls, a retail manager who quit her job partly due to lack of
privacy and harrassment from co-workers while pumping at work, and
another woman who, due to workplace stress, was not successful at
pumping at work even though she had her own office. The story put
the emphasis where many of us would agree it belongs: on employers.
Societal attitudes were mentioned as well. The bottom line was that
it's not enough for mothers to want to breastfeed -- they also need
the support of their employers and others. The maternal-child
health, economic, and public health reasons for encouraging
breastfeeding were all mentioned. My impression was that the report
was solidly pro-breastfeeding and most Lactnetters would be pleased
with it.

>On 5/8/04 NPR (National Public Radio-in the US) did a segment on their

>"Research has found that babies who are breastfed get fewer illnesses in
>childhood. Because of that, the government is trying to encourage women to
>breastfeed their infants for longer. But some moms find that trying to both
