Louise - WHAT a frustrating situation! If this mother really does want to
continue breastfeeding it seems inexplicable that she is not prepared to
pump for a mere 10 days to preserve the breastfeeding relationship - sorry!
get just the teeniest touch frustrated by mothers who say one thing "I
really WANT to breastfeed", and then omit to do things that can make it
happen. On the other hand, if the baby will be permitted to drink from a
cup, and be "permitted" to swallow, then it also seems inexplicable that he
will not be able to breastfeed. I just bet the Team equate bottle-feeding
(hard rubber intrusive teat, which may disturb their handiwork) with
breastfeeding! Not the same thing at all, nice soft pliable non-intrusive
nipple, functioning let-down reflex which means less effort for the baby,
wound will be bathed frequently with physiologic liquid to prevent
infection, hasten healing ... Just a couple of thoughts. Good luck!
