Barbara, I am wondering if this baby is reacting (with gastroesophageal
reflux) to the Cows Milk Protein in the mother's milk, which was absent
when on soy formula.
There are studies showing that CMPA (cows milk protein allergy) can cause
or worsen symptoms of reflux, which improve when the CMP is removed.
Try a search on PubMed/Medline with keywords cows milk protein and reflux
and you will get several useful citations.
I am not eager to suggest elimination diets in general, but on occasion
have seen dramatic improvement in reflux (as well as infant irritability)
when dairy is removed from the mom's diet.
