Hi all,
Finally a week and one day after due date (which I know is an arbitrary
date set to drive pregnant moms nuts)on Feb 6, I gave birth VBAC to a 13
pound 20 inch baby girl. It was perfect and completely drug free. Baby was
nursing before cord was cut and all were amazed at the way she rooted and
latched with very little assistance from me.
Since we were discussing the "ritual" of weighing at birth, on day 3
(actually 50 hours later) she weighed 12 lbs 4 oz. This after several
meconium and wet diapers as well regular nursing. Interesting thought that
we should perhaps wait on a weight until all the "pregnancy weight" of the
baby is off and the "true weight" can be measured. I will say though, that
the ritual of birth weight should still be continued--it is very powerful for
me to know that I birthed a baby at that weight "all by myself".
For those of you who read the post I wrote earlier about no milk for my
twins, let me say that I am totally paranoid now about enough milk for this
one. There are 8 plus soaking wet cloth diapers a day and 3 sometimes 4 or 5
large bowel movements, she is happy and fine, BUT there is part of me that
keeps worrying there is not going to be any milk any day now. Interestingly,
I never had the "milk in" feeling I had with my first 3 children, no fullness
to speak of only a little heavier--but not much. I have MER sensations now,
but no leaking (which I use to have with first 3 to the point of always
carrying an extra shirt and bra) and I must say this does not help. You know
how often you tell moms it is not important to be engorged? That it is
possible your body is just functioning properly and with experience etc etc.
Well, let me tell you I am telling myself all the things I tell moms every
day, but when everything you read says by day 3 or 4 you should have hard
swollen breasts, it is very hard to accept that you don't. You did not and
you will not. Some experiences change your perception forever and obviously
this was one for me. I am consciously working on getting over this and
enjoying the joy of nursing and not weighing with each feed...did not even
get The scale.

Glad to no longer be pregnant,
