Hi All,
This is the first I've read of the warning. What I found on the Internet is that this came out in 2012 and Hale's references do not include the 2012 FDA warning. The FDA documents I looked at also do not spell out what the hazard would be to the infant but it does state that there can be a reduction in milk production. The following is from drugs.com under the heading Breastfeeding: 
"Mothers should not breast-feed during treatment with Methergine. Milk secreted during this period should be discarded. Methergine may produce adverse effects in the breast-feeding infant. Methergine may also reduce the yield of breast milk. Mothers should wait at least 12 hours after administration of the last dose of Methergine before initiating or resuming breast feeding."
"Adverse effects" what are they and do we need to be concerned in the immediate Post Partum period? We don't worry with most drugs while the baby is getting colostrum.
