Hi, Annette:Funny you should mention these! I was waylaid by our Mead-
Johnson rep on my out yesterday. It seems that they will get DHA into
people no matter how they can get it. It's a supplement that mom (pregnant
or nursing) takes once a day (and they're these big honkin softgels) that
will provide her with 200 mg of Martek DHA. We all know where that comes
from and it's not from fish! It's called cohnii oil and I suspect from
reading Valerie's many posts on the subject, that's it's been heavily bio-
engineered.
He gave me several "studies" which I haven't had a chance to read yet.
Apparently there isn't an adult in the US that gets anywhere near the RDA
of DHA on a daily basis. So this is M-J's solution to the problem. I did
ask him whether they knew if mom's dietary intake of DHA even gets into her
milk in sufficient enough quantities to warrent the additional cost of this
supplement and of course, he didn't know. M-J is recommending that she
take this DHA supplement in addition to her prenatal vitamin each day. The
parent advertising is heavily skewed towards baby's brain/eye development.
Interesting...
