One more thing I have to comment about and then we can get back to
breastfeeding issues. Sherry mentioned that some kids have hearing problems
later on. It is considered a screening tool and is not fool-proof. I seem
to recall that the American Academy of Pediatrics had studies on the outcomes
of these screenings so if someone is interested, probably a search on their
website would lead you to it. I left the hearing packet with the studies
attached when I left that hospital. Again, like formula companies, the
hearing screening companies all have study results that the sales reps. show
you when demonstrating their products. But, I researched the nonbiased
studies. Hearing screenings became a state law for newborns in the state of
Illinois a couple of years ago, and it landed as a part of the newborn's
hospital stay. Not mandated by law to be there....the laws merely state that
newborn screenings are conducted as when the procedure is conducted properly,
the screenings do optimize early intervention for appropriate infants, and
thus improved outcomes long-term. Okay, I'm getting off of this subject now.
