Johanna Writes:
Well, where I come from, sometimes you just have to say "NO." What's the
worst that could happen? The rep reports that the LCs refused to speak
to him?

We did say "no", but you know, to a salesman, "no" just means he has to work
harder to get you to "yes"!
Problem was, he was invited by our imediate supervisor to attend our
meeting. When our eyebrows raised at this, her attitude was "I made an
executive decision."! It's only one part of our current problem. The
department director recently changed who we "answer to". The new gal is a
real "type A" who unfortunately also feels she is an expert in how LC's
should operate. Her PhD project was setting up LC services at another
hospital, so the way she wants things done is, of course, the only correct
way. She attends and runs our LC staff meetings so we can't accomplish the
same things we could when it was only us. Her name tag is clipped to her
clothes with an Enfamil badge holder. Does that clue you in on the wall we
face when we try to keep our services according to code?

If my husband hadn't been "requested" to retire early a couple years ago, I
wouldn't be our source of ongoing expense money while he saves up Social
Security for our mutual retirement fund expansion. Then I would have the
option of quitting or looking elsewhere. But who would hire someone who's
just 2 years from retirement? Wish I could just work with moms and babies
without all the administrative stuff and institutional "politics"!

Thanks for the opportunity to vent.
