Please, please be careful when repsonding to this. I find it
revealing that the production people are trawling the US for subject
matter, because they have been all round every whichway in the UK,
and seem not to have got subjects. Many of us have been approached
individually or through our organisations, and as far as I can tell,
few have co-operated.

And for why?

Because TV in the UK has a terrible track record in support of
non-mainstream parenting and feeding choices - inc Channel 4.

In addition, last year there was a truly dreadful series (not on Ch
4, though, IIRC) called 'Bringing Up Baby' which purported to compare
different 'methods' of babycare. One in particular was 'Truby King'
style, which led to a mother being told to leave a tiny newborn
screaming for her mother for hours, and force-feeding twins with
formula (you get the picture.....). Anyway, the Truby King 'nanny'
was discovered to have falsified her qualifications and the whole
saga has added to the cautious scepticism everyone who has anything
to do with mothers and babies feels about TV.

You also need to remember that clips from TV programmes end up on
video-sharing sites like YouTube. Anything to do with breastfeeding
encourages nasty, obscene comments.

My feeling is that if UK TV wants to do a programme about
breastfeeding, then why not do something about the woeful level of
support for women who choose to breastfeed, and about the insidious
and sometimes illegal ways formula manufacturers undermine this
choice, the lack of training among healthcare professionals, the
risks of formula feeding....there is plenty there without looking at
the 'outlying' subject matter of wet nursing.

Why are they interested in wet nursing and not this other, everyday
stuff? We have never had a programme about that.

So - do be careful.....'s'all I'm saying :)

Cindy says the researcher was nice. Of course she was. In fact, she
may well be really, genuinely nice. She is not the one commissining
the film, or making it, or editing it, or scripting it, or voicing
it, or scheduling it, or selling ads to go in the breaks, or
organising the duty of care to the participants. Etc Etc Etc.
