Jan and all:
The baby was term, moderately dehydrated (Na 158, Cl 113 and base deficit of
only 4), and YES, I am searching for some other reason for the bili of 40!
The mother breastfed 2 other children (mild jaundice only) for approximately 1
year each, was well educated, intelligent, yet did not get concerned about
green stools on day 6. She noted the baby was "mildly" jaundiced until the day of
admission. The hooker is - she has another child who has developmental delay
and seizures of unknown etiology - but NO kernicterus on MRI).
