The Israeli Ministry of Health recommends breastfeeding for at least one
year and for as long as mother and baby wish after that. More or less
what the AAP says. Exclusive breastfeeding is recommended for the first
6 months.
Unfortunately it is not enough to recommend. Most mothers do not get
the support and help needed to get things off to a good start. Until
there are more IBCLC's in hospitals and well-baby clinics, the
recommendations will not be translated into reality.
Esther Grunis, IBCLC (who is still the only IBCLC in a hospital with
9000 births per year)
