Is this crack at the base of the nipple (i.e. were the nipple connects to
areola). In my experience, these are the most painful cracks and can be the
hardest to heal. After nursing, the nipple must be kept out with the crack
open. When the bra/bra pad is put on quickly, the edges of the crack closes
together. This does not allow the crack to begin to heal from the inside out.
Keep the nipple exposed to the air and allow it to begin to heal from the
inside out. The healing time is much quicker. I see this type of crack
often.......
