The reference for the stomach size of newborns is

Scammon RE and Doyle LO. Observations on the capacity of the stomach in the
first ten days of postnatal life. Am.J.Dis.Child 1920; 20:516-538.

This research was published in Silverman, WA: Dunham's Premature Infants,
3rd edition. Paul B. Hoeber, Inc. Medical division of Harper and Brothers,
New York 1961, pages 143-144.

This was published in our Ohio lactation consultant association newsletter
by a dietitian working at one of the regional perinatal centers. To her
knowledge, the information is still quite accurate and useful. She has not
found anything more recent.
