I believe too it was Salk, but Lee Salk, not his brother Jonas who  
developed the polio vaccine.  Lee Salk was a psychologist from Cornell  University 
and the crying quote was in his book What Every Child Would like his  
Parents to Know..., if I'm not mistaken.  His quote was then stated in the  
Womanly Art of Breastfeeding.  I remember reading Salk's books as a teenage  
babysitter and they had a profound impact on my beliefs; his and Haim  Ginott's.  
Now I've dated myself.
