Wow! the paper didn't run Baby Blues this day? Sad to believe
something like that actually happens in the USA -2003!

I also would like to vent a minute. I have been hearing from quite a
few moms during the 2 week follow-up phone calls I make to our
breastfeeding moms (I'm hospital employed) that, "yes I quit
breastfeeding last week for such and such reason and have been using the
new formula with those additives that make it so much more like
breastmilk......"sounds like moms in my area are hearing the sales pitch
loud and clear......Well, not really "CLEAR" (accurate), are they now?

Also someone posted a few days ago that they felt pediatricians who are
knowledgeable and supportive of breastfeeding are so-o-o important. And
I'm sure the poster also meant influential. Had a mom call me the other
day saying her baby was nearing the age of one, had recently moved to
the area and had been told by her pediatrician from her former residence
that she should "try and breastfeed for one year"......and now wanted to
know how to begin weaning. Well, after some listening, I learned she
did not want to wean, but felt she should because it was going to be
"one year". She was relieved to hear she didn't have to wean, that her
son definitely didn't want to stop and that yes, she'd love to come to
the next LLL meeting to meet other moms who nurse more than one year.

This was just one of the many examples I hear of, reminding me how very
very much hcp's are listened to (sometimes too literally, ha ha) and the
influence they have on decisions women make regarding their baby's care.

To those going to the ILCA Conference - have fun, learn much and be
prepared to share with us when you return!

Warmly, Mary Coutts, IBCLC, LLLL
