Well, since you asked....
I'm glad to share that I work for one of those six USA BF hospitals, Alice
Peck Day Memorial Hospital in NH. I know that Miles Memorial in
Darmariscotta, Maine is another one of the four most recently assessed. As I
understand it a total of nine of the hospitals holding Certificates of Intent
have felt ready for the assessment and had proceeded or will be proceeding
with assessment (starting with the Evergreen in Washington state).

I'd also like to clarify something about the BF USA fees that were questioned
recently. The fees are not specifically for the PSAs or the up-coming
brochure but for Baby Friendly USA to do its work, keeping track of all the
places with Certificates of Intent, the assessments and reassessments, etc. ,
the paper work and phone calls. If you search the Lactnet archives there
was a post about this back in May around the 20th or 21st which better
explains the reasons for the fees. I remember the dates because it was right
during our hospital's BFHI assessment!

I hope folks are taking the time to approach their administrators about
procuring the funds for the fees and not assume these make BF impossible.
All the hard work our staff put in over the years and the benefits reaped
by all the mothers and babies at our Birthing Center by working toward and
becoming Baby Friendly are worth the "price" of the fees.
